2026 Madres Appreciation Award

On the 19^th day of September 2026, we were honored to present our annual appreciation award to the family of Tony Gwynn Sr.

Alicia Gwynn represented the family at our brunch celebrating Tony Gwynn and his legacy. We heard several stories of Tony’s kindness and generosity from guests such former Padres executive Andy Strasberg as well as from Madres members Kathy Pearson, Debra Bralla, Pati Zambori, and Roberta Blank.

We also enjoyed a slide show featuring photos of Tony Sr., Tony Jr., and Alicia at various Madres events over the years. An album of these pictures along with notecards filled with memories from our members was presented to Alicia along with the appreciation award.

The banquet room looked amazing and included a brown and yellow balloon arch for photos. Attendees received a commemorative Tony Gwnn keychain and baseball cards.  Our raffle baskets and door prizes were filled with Tony Gwynn memorabilia. We thank all of you who contributed to making this day so special!

Alicia graciously answered questions and spoke about the special relationship that Tony had with the Madres over the years. Toward the end of his life, Tony said to her: “Don’t let the people forget about me.” We hope that Tony felt our love that day and that the family is assured that we will always cherish the legacy of the one and only “Mr. Padre.”
